Amy Flynn YSM: Ozzie & Scumbi

Actually, I have two studio mascots, one inanimate, and one very very animated.

The first is Ozzie, my ten year old Welsh terrier. Sort of an Airedale lite. He has no opposable thumbs, and thus is unable to paint, but is too smart to be an art director (Welshies are a very smart breed). So mostly he just watches me and keeps the property safe from postal workers, squirrels, etc.

If he could talk, he would say "UPS man come to kill us all! Look! Look! Look! Look!"

The other mascot is Scumbi.
There should be a heart over the"i", but I don't know how to do that digitally.

Scumbi was the studio mascot when I worked in Hallmark's Palo Alto Regional Studio back in the 80's. I guess we were all a little tired of painting cute teddy bears, and he was the antidote. He used to be a regular bear, but he fell in with a bad crowd.

Artists. Sheesh.

Kristin Sorra YSM: Desi

Every so often I will post pictures of my dog, Desi, particularly when I think he acts out of character. My husband took this shot in my studio while I was sitting in this chair. Here, he's hanging out while I work. Notice the delicate way he rests his paw on the base of the chair, very cool and laid back. Okay, it's cute, it's my dog, so there.

Brandi Jasmine's YSM: Sawyer

My kitty is named after Sawyer in "Cats Don't Dance". I usually work at night, and her favorite place to sleep is the futon behind my computer. One of her favorite toys is my paint brush canister, which I have hidden in a number of different places. She loves to watch me paint and work on my computer.

EC Stewart's YSM: Pip

Personally, I have four fuzzybutts that roam throughout the studio. Originally, Bacchus was my YSM, but due to conditions out of my control, Pip is now my current resident.

Welcome to Your Studio Mascot

I thought it would be fun to feature studios or offices that not only admit animal mascots into their work environment, but encourage it.

Those of you who work from home are often visited by your four legged friend and that can be a welcomed interruption at times; there are larger companies who actually allow animals into the offices to boost morale.

If you've got a Studio Mascot (YSM) that you'd like featured on our site, we welcome your submissions. To submit YSM Pet or request a blogger invite please email us.

We do ask that YSM Pet:
  • Be a live animal that might bark, meow, chirp, hiss, moo, whinny, nay, or even bubble from inside a bowl;
  • YSM Pet is well cared for -we understand if the pet is ill; and
  • YSM Pet is clear in your photo -getting your office in the photo isn't mandatory.
However, if you do not have a fuzzy face mascot but do have a compelling effigy of sort, you may submit it. We ask that you make it good and don't disappoint us. ;)

Also, make sure to include your contact info (should we have questions) that includes your Web site or blog so that we can include it within the upload.

Please Note: We do have a pretty wicked sense of humor, but if the submission is in anyway distasteful, we reserve the right to refuse. For the love of Pets, no Michael Vick re-enactments.
